Fuck Lil Wayne. Actually, I have no particular opinion about Lil Wayne, and that's mostly from relative ignorance of his catalog.
If you're interested in some really awesome, fairly recent shit, check out Wu Tang's "8 Diagrams." It's a very divisive album, as it represents a huge stylistic shift from Wu Tang's prior body of work (though, one might argue, its style was foreshadowed by the likes of "Gravel Pit" and other early-2000s Wu Tang tracks of an experimental nature). So-called purists have roundly rejected "8 Diagrams," and Ghostface notoriously feuded with RZA over the album's creation and publication. Ghostface thought it was too great a departure from the original Wu Tang style, while RZA was in favor of evolving and progressing the style.
At any rate, check that shit out when/if you get the chance.
