sure, he's kind of a pussy when it comes to beating back the asshole tide that is the right, and yes he is spying on us while refusing to prosecute war criminals, but all said and done, there's little not to love here.

angry nick is being subdued well enough by indica nick, but i can't help asking what right we have to demand accountability for the record of the last administration when we don't demand a lick of that shit from the current one.

hehe "lick of that shit" (thank you, indica nick)

I defended Obama's Special Olympics joke. So let me be clear what offended me about his humorous dismissal of the marijuana issue in his town hall was not his suggesting that the internet is a community of stoners. It was a joke, albeit not a funny one, but okay, you're the handsome charming dude. I truly believe nothing is off limits in comedy so I don't completely agree with retired Seattle Police Chief Norm Stamper's piece from Huff Post. But I do think it's significant that the bullying of Obama by the right has been very effective in coloring his positions (or at least his responses) with language to assuage those who might fill their conservative talk shows with sound and video of him "fucking up."

I voted for Hillz in the primary. Probably wouldn't have if California voted after her team proved to be such a mess. But I remember my friend saying something to me about the Clintons to the effect of "do you really want to spar with the right for the next 4 or 8 years." In other words, Obama is a uniter, a post-partisan fucking visionary (knights of the magical light) and he will guide America into the future. Problem is some folks see an olive branch and wipe their asses with the leaves. Once the symbolic extension of it is made for posterity's sake, it's time to return to your corner and knuckle up. Clinton-style. I think Obama is absolutely a better face for those politics but I wish he would stop being such a pussy and man the fuck up.

And getting back to medical marijuana, check out this nice piece from the Atlantic (monthly) about how deeply Washington and Wall Street are intertwined ("intertwined" maspuuuuuto). you make the connection, it's saturday night and i'm sick of being upset about all this.

Critical Thinking. And Civics.

You're not allowed to call yourself a liberal, let alone a progressive, if you practice the same blind support of the President that you acted superior to for the last seven and a half years. If you utter the words "this is not the time for bi-partisanship" to me I might knock your fucking teeth out. I voted for Hillary in California. Probably wouldn't have if I'd known what a mess her team would turn out to be. But frankly I didn't think any of my choices was particularly impressive. Anyway, if you say that my criticizing Obama comes out of some bitterness over my not being on the winning team in the fucking democratic fucking primary of all things, then you're probably the type to do what you're accusing me of. What I am in fact doing is being a responsible citizen in a democracy. Not that this is one. Ugh, I feel dirty. You make me feel fucking dirty. You know who you are.

Here's what inspired this rant. I love me some Krugman.

On Kobe. And other things, too, I imagine.

My little bro was there. I was not. :(

Change!

Finally I found a use for the word. I had dismissed My Morning Jacket because I heard a cheesy song on indie 103.1 and the DJs were suspiciously in love with the band. How foolish! If I paid attention to that station before its desperate publicity stunt of a stand against the macheenay wash I wouldn't like a lot of great bands whose popularity I encourage and support. Anyway, in my KICK ASS bass lesson today with my old teacher Lonnie Marshall with whom I've started up again, we learned the Express Yourself bassline. The song, originally by Charles Wright and the Watts 103rd St. Rhythm Band but gangsterly sampled by N.W.A., is HOT and the bassline a joy to play. When I was youtubing the track I came across a live cover of it by My Morning Jacket and it made me actually check the band out and reconsider my hasty writing-off. I think I like, them, I'm not sure, but the point is simple. Don't be an asshole! Change your mind from time to time. The longer more nuanced version of this about Barack Obama has yet to be written. Suffice to say, I love the guy after being VERRRRY skeptical at the outset of the primaries. Which is sort of like assuming Lil' Wayne sucks after seeing who goes to his shows.

Now if I could only find a use for "hope."

PS holy shit! i wrote this before watching the NWA Express yourself video (below). Fuuuuck I love those motherfuckers. No punches pulled. Truth. And fuck you if you don't like it.
